Rest in Peace

Good afternoon!

(Emily)
First, we would like to thank Governor Davis for giving us the opportunity to attend and to speak at this Day of Remembrance.
My name is Emily Aoyama, and this is my brother George.
Our father, David Aoyama, was on American Airline Flight Number 11 on September11th, and we would like to share our thoughts about it.

(George)
This has been a huge loss in our lives. However, there are many precious things my father gave to us, and left for us. These supports are giving me the confidence and courage to not hesitate or step back to face anything. He also gave me the hope for the great future.
Since America is a multicultural country, we should show the world how to create peace in diversity.
My determination is to help establish a non-violent society.
It may be a long way, but I will definitely work towards it.

(Emily)
It is still hard to accept the fact that my one and only dad is gone from the world. And sometimes, I find myself forgetting that he is not here anymore to share my happiness. Yet, ever since that tragedy happened, I have determined to live everyday a stronger spirit and achieve my daily goals toward my future.
I feel that I have his spirit now, which I cannot even express in words but I am determined to continue showing his spirit through my actions.
One important thing that my father always told me is that when you die, you cannot take your money with you. No matter how much you earn money--perhaps even dream of becoming a billionaire--the time will come in life when money, authority, and position become valueless, and the bond between family, friends, and others become everything. I was surprised to see myself becoming more and more encouraged from my dad's family, friends and co-workers, who are all such wonderful people, having the big hearts to share our feelings at such a crucial moment.

People of my generation, myself included, have never experienced the barbarous wars ofthe 20th century. But now I understand that peace can only begin with tolerance and mutual respect among people. Only then can it be established among societies or nations. Every friendship starts from peace between individuals too. Because as the time pass, it is so natural for one's awakened spirit to die away, I truly hope, deep in my heart that everyone's future will be full of hopes and new determinations to live for lost loved ones.
